The words we use in our everyday lives fall into a number of categories. These categories (classes) help us to form coherent sentences, allowing us to communicate with each other efficiently.

noun

A word that is used to identify - a person, a thing, or an idea. There are many types of nouns, can you list them all?

verb

A word that describes what a person or thing does, or what happens. There are many types of verbs, can you list them all?

A word that describes what a noun, giving extra information about it. There are many types of adjectives, can you list them all?

 
ADVERBS

A word that gives information about a verb, adjective, or other adverb. There are many types of adverbs, can you list them all?

PRONOUNS

A word that is used in place of a noun that is already known, or has already been mentioned. This is often done to avoid repeating the noun. There are many types of pronouns, can you list them all?

Prepositions

A word that shows the relationship between a noun or pronoun, and other words in a sentence. They can describe the position of something, the time when something happens, or the way in which something is done.

 
Conjunctions

A word that is used to connect phrases, clauses, and sentences. There are many types of conjunctions, can you list them all?

determiner

A word that introduces a noun.

EXCLAMATION

(interjection) A word or phrase that expresses strong emotion. These often stand on their own and are usually followed by an exclamation mark.
